Firefighters have extinguished a fire inside Garran Primary School this afternoon.

At about 12pm ACT Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire on Gilmore Crescent, Garran.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the room of origin before it was able to spread throughout the school.

Approximately 40 children were evacuated from the buildings along with staff members.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation and the scene has since been handed to ACT Policing.
