Man dies after being hit by a light rail vehicle in Canberra's North

A 49-year-old man has died after he was hit by a light rail vehicle last night.

At about 7:15pm, ACT Emergency Services responded to a collision between a light rail vehicle and a pedestrian at the intersection of Northbourne Avenue and Barton Highway in Downer.

Police arrived on scene within minutes and commenced CPR until ACT Ambulance Service paramedics arrived and began to treat the man.

He was then transported to hospital with life-threating injures where he was sadly declared deceased a short time later.

ACT Road Policing’s Major Collision Team is investigating the circumstances of the collision, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
