Firefighters have contained a fire in an oven in Phillip this afternoon.

At approximately 1.15pm ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire on Townshend Street.

Firefighters arrived to find a café smoke logged and the above floor smoke affected.

Nearby premises were evacuated as a precaution.

An ACT Emergency Services Agency spokesperson said firefighters extinguished a fire inside an oven at the location and there were no reports of any injuries.

Townshend Street was closed for a short time while emergency services were in attendance.
