A fire has destroyed a home in Torrens this evening.

At approximately 7.10pm ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a house fire on Batchelor Street.

Firefighters arrived to find a townhouse well alight with fire through the roof.

Quick response from firefighters allowed the fire to be contained to the single townhouse without any spread to adjoining homes.

The ACT Ambulance Service were in attendance and checked on a number of residents but there have been no reports of serious injuries at this stage.

The roof of the home has collapsed and a complete search of the home may take some time.

Firefighters are expected to remain on scene into this night monitoring for any hot spots.

ACT Policing were also in attendance.
