19-year-old man dies after falling at Gibraltar Falls

A young man has died after falling from a popular swimming spot in Canberra's south this morning.

Just after 11am, ACT Emergency Services responded to reports that someone had fallen at the Gibraltar Falls on Corin Road.

ACT Parks and Conservation rangers and passersby were able to provide assistance and first aid until emergency services arrived.

Despite the best efforts of emergency personnel, the man died at the scene.

The Toll Rescue chopper was sent to the scene for a potential airlift from the scene but was not required.

ACT Policing established a crime scene and the falls were closed for most of the afternoon.

ACT Parks and Conservation Service have said the Gibraltar Falls precinct is closed until further notice. This includes the lookout, car park and walking track from Woods Reserve.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
