The driver of a black SUV has escaped serious injury after crashing into a tree in Gungahlin this afternoon.

Just before 4pm, ACT Emergency Services responded to reports of a motor vehicle crash on Anthony Rolfe Avenue near the intersection of Moonlight Avenue.

Firefighters were required to extricate the occupant from the vehicle which was laying on its side.

ACT Ambulance Service paramedics treated and transported the driver to hospital in a stable condition.

The road was closed for about an hour until the scene was cleared.

ACT Policing are investigating the incident.
