One person has been rescued following a unit fire in Oaks estate this afternoon.

Just after 12pm ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of structure fire with persons trapped.

Upon arrival firefighters located a unit well alight with a person screaming out for help on the top floor of the building.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire and rescue the resident.

That person was then assessed on the scene by NSW Ambulance Service paramedics for smoke inhaltion and transported to hospital.

ACT Fire & Rescue extinguished the fire which is now being treated as suspicious. A crime scene has been established.
