Historic building destroyed following suspicious blaze in Canberra's north overnight

 A historic building has been destroyed following a suspicious blaze near Gold Creek overnight.

Just before 1am, ACT Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a structure fire on the Barton Highway.

Upon arrival they found a building well alight that had already partially collapsed.

Fire crews got to work containing the fire to the building preventing its spread into nearby grasslands.

4 Pumpers from ACT Fire Rescue, 1 RFS appliance, 1 bulk water carrier and a Commander were in attendance.

The building is believed to be part of the historic Ginninderra Police Station and was completely destroyed.

An ACT Policing spokesperson said following an assessment of the scene, the fire was deemed suspicious.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers, quoting reference number 7716264.

ACT Ambulance Service paramedics were also in attendance but were not required.
