Firefighters have contained a fast-moving grass fire in Higgins this afternoon.

At approximately 5.30pm ACT fire towers at One Tree Hill and Mt Tennant spotted smoke coming from the vicinity of North West Belconnen.

Firefighters quickly responded to the area and reported fire moving in long grass. 

More resources were requested to respond to the scene and the fire was contained to an area of approximately 1 hectare.

Unfortunately a significant part of the vineyard on the property was heavily impacted by fire.

Fire crews are expected to remain at the scene for several hours checking for hot spots.

The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.
