Man dies in house fire East of Canberra

A man has died in a house fire at Captains Flat this afternoon

Just before 12.30pm today NSW and ACT Emergency Services were called to a home at the corner of Willow Road and Wattle Avenue, Captains Flat, where they found a home well alight.

Crews from ACT Fire and Rescue, NSW Fire and Rescue, NSW RFS, NSW Ambulance and NSW Police responded to the scene.

Local Rural Fire Service members entered the burning home to search for anyone inside.

A male resident was pulled from the house by firefighters, however despite the best efforts by emergency services he died at the scene.

Several NSW RFS members were assessed at the scene for possible smoke inhalation but did not require transport to hospital.

Officers from Monaro Police District have established a crime scene and an investigation is underway into the circumstances surrounding the fire.

As inquiries continue, anyone with information is urged to call Queanbeyan Police.
